Mobile companies restrained from making multiple SIM phones
The Madras High Court on Monday restrained mobile phone manufacturers Samsung, Mirc Electronics and Spice Mobile and several retailers from manufacturing and selling multiple SIM holding mobile phones.
Several retailers, including online retailers Ebay India and Rediff.com and importers were also restrained from selling such phones, he added.
Earlier, Ramkumar had accused the companies and retailers of infringing his patent for multiple SIM mobile phones.
The case will be taken for hearing April 13.
In another case filed by Ramkumar, the high court Justice K Venkatraman Monday ordered the Customs Department to implement the Intellectual Property Rights (Imported Goods) Enforcement Rules 2007 to protect the petitioner's legal rights.
The rules enable the customs officials to seize imported goods that infringe patents.
"This is my first step in establishing my right as a patent holder," an elated Ramkumar said.
A 36-year-old electronics engineer, Ramkumar holds the Indian patent (No.214388) for plurality of SIM cards in a single mobile handset as well as plurality of bluetooth devices in headphone and earphone jacks.
In his petition, Ramkumar said Mirc, Spice and Samsung were manufacturing mobile handsets infringing his patent for the product and the technology and 10 others were advertising and selling the products all over India.
On his complaint to the Chennai Customs Office, officials in various cities have already impounded import consignments of mobile handsets with plurality of SIM cards.

BT to give 6 cities super-fast broadband by 2010
BT has revealed that it will roll out super-fast broadband to six cities in the UK by 2010.
According to the ISP, internet users in London, Manchester, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Cardiff and Belfast will be offered internet access speed of up to 60Mbps. BT said these were the areas where demand for super-fast broadband was greatest.
The half a million homes and businesses being given super-fast broadband access will be the first in the ISP's £1.5bn upgrade of the UK's ageing copper network to fibre cables, capable of speeds up to 100Mbps.
The roll-out of the upgrade stalled last year, after BT questioned whether Ofcom would impose restrictions on how much the ISP could charge other service providers to use their fibre network. However, Ofcom announced last month that it would not restrict pricing.
The ISP also said it hoped to trial the service in two rural areas; Calder Valley near Halifax and Taffs Well in South Wales, and that 40 percent of the country would have super-fast broadband access by 2012.

NASA's third spacewalk hits roadblock.
NASA astronauts Joseph Acaba and Richard Arnold completed the space shuttle's third spacewalk at 6:04 p.m. EDT having struck some trouble with an incorrectly installed cargo carrier.
After spending some time attempting to push and pull the Port 3 unpressurized cargo carrier attachment system (UCCAS), the spacewalkers were forced to lash it into place while engineers evaluate the problem, said a NASA statement.
"I just don't see anything in the way," one of the astronauts said.
The six-and-a-half hour spacewalk was successful in assisting robotic arm operators relocate the Crew Equipment Translation Aid (CETA) cart from the Port 1 to Starboard 1 truss segment, installed a new coupler on the CETA cart, lubricated snares on the "B" end of the space station's robotic arm and performed a few "get ahead" tasks, said NASA.
It said because of the nature of the problem, controllers had cancelled a similar payload attachment system to be installed on the starboard side of the ISS.
The Discovery space shuttle is expected to wind up its mission on March 25 for a Mar 27 landing at Cape Canaveral in Florida.

Polar Bear remains a contentious issue
The governments from five Arctic countries — including Canada — agreed on Thursday after a three-day summit in Norway that climate change has had a negative impact on polar bears and their habitat, calling it the most important long-term threat facing the giant carnivores.
But how that international agreement will translate into policy within our own borders is very much up in the air.
Nearly a year after the United States moved to list the polar bear as a threatened species, Canada is continuing to wrestle with whether to list the carnivore as a "species of special concern" — a status one below "threatened" and two below "endangered" under Canada's Species at Risk Act (SARA).
And the interested parties on both sides of the debate haven't budged from their positions: environmental groups and biologists insist the polar bear is in danger of disappearing as sea ice in the Arctic is lost, while Inuit groups insist polar bear populations are as healthy as ever.

Organic Gardening.
Many have the habit of growing a lawn or maintaining a garden at home. Some do this as a hobby while some take this as a serious activity to retain their pride in the neighborhood. Gardens always add beauty to the living space. I too have my own garden in the backyard of my place. I had lots of flowers and small plants.
Sometime ago I was using chemical pesticides to grow those plants. But then I heard that some studies have shown that chemical pesticides linger in the atmosphere, the ground and in our waterways and cause pollution. Since then I stopped using them.
After that I found out the concept of organic gardening. The basic theory in organic gardening is that "nature knows best." This concept nurtures the ground and in turn gives re birth to your plants. The organic gardening has its own advantages. The soil in which you grow will always be taken care and kept fresh. The grown food has got a high nutrient content than the previous methods. It ails you physically and mentally and saves you lots of money too.
If you feel that you can’t take up this type of gardening. Then I will advise you to follow at least the organic pest control for your plants. This has got more benefits than the normally used chemical fertilizers. Definitely these pesticides control pollution and there by increases your life time.
The usage of these pesticides and the method of organic gardening not only help you but also the whole environment. So I started following these practices and also informing to take up this organic way of gardening.

The Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada south central chapter is planning for the 2009 Manitoba Lotteries MS Walk this spring.
While this year’s Morden walk won’t be held until Sun., April 19, individuals, teams and volunteers can register now.
Established in 1991, this year’s MS Walk – formerly known as the Supercities WALK for MS – will boast a new look and a re-energized feel for the over 70,000 participants who come together annually across the country to raise millions for MS programs and research.
Whether you’re an individual looking to make a difference or a manager looking for a great team-building opportunity, the MS Society can help you get involved in an event that not only raises thousands of dollars for important MS treatment programs and research but offers a fun day of activity in the community.
It’s easier than ever to get involved in the walk and begin your fundraising efforts. The new mswalks.ca website offers easy, convenient online registration for walkers in the Morden, Winkler and Altona areas, or you can contact the Morden office to register in-person or over the phone.
Register online, and friends and family can pledge you over the Internet by contributing to your fundraising account.

Artificial Heart - A revolution
Cardiac surgeons say the artificial heart developed at the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur (IIT KGP) could bring about a revolution in modern medicine and especially benefit patients in developing countries. So far, the number of heart transplants in India is too low, mainly because of the prohibitive cost of the imported synthetic heart.
Doctors say that when all devices like pace makers or stents fail, the only option for a heart patient is to replace the failing heart. An artificial heart can be used either for total replacement or it can used as a parallel circuit.
"All heart ailments ultimately lead to failure of the organ. Going by the increasing number of cardiac patients, cardio vascular disease is going to assume the magnitude of an epidemic in about two decades. If this artificial heart works, it will bring about a sea change and benefit everyone from newborns to adults," said cardio vascular surgeon Shantanu Dutta of SSKM.
Though there is a demand for hearts, be they artificial or from cadavers, not many heart transplants have taken place in India. The absence of donors has limited transplants from cadavers. Moreover, the synthetic heart imported from the US is too expensive. With an estimated cost of just Rs 1 lakh, the artificial heart designed by IIT KGP can bring about a medical revolution.
